Why I Love My German Shepherd has its roots in dog training classes in southern Spain, where Gema Jareno took her German Shepherds along with her husband Nick Jones. He had never been a 'dog person' but as the strong Andalucian sun went down, Nick noticed how it brought out the beauty of the golden fur of the German Shepherds in these classes. He's a documentary filmmaker from London, while Gema is a Spaniard with a life-long love of animals.
Gema bought a second German Shepherd from her dog trainer, a puppy named Tosca. After three years her health began to decline rapidly. Gema and Nick were determined Tosca would somehow survive but it would take over a year of treatment. During the nerve-wracking visits to vets, Nick began to appreciate the unique love that exists between German Shepherd and owner. He became determined to tell that story in a cinema documentary. The result is Why I Love My German Shepherd
It's a project that marries Gema's love of animals with Nick's passion for storytelling on film. He has been making documentaries for over 30 years, mainly for British TV networks such as the BBC, Channel 4 and ITV. Here's a list of his main productions www.quantafilms.co.uk
